Every dog person has that one special dog in their life. Sassie was mine.

Just like people, I think every dog has a unique personality. Sassie was a comedian, she loved to make me laugh. If I shook my finger in her face she would gently reach up and bite it. She just loved to be the center of attention.

Sassie loved to lay in bed and she loved pillows. But more than that, she loved treats and could hear the treat jar lid be opened from anywhere in the house.

She relished her job as bag inspector at the shop. She would go up to someone and nudge the bottom of the bag until they set it on the floor. Then she would bury her face in the bag to see what was in there (she never took anything), when she was finished she would look at the person as if to say "You can take the bag now, I've inspected it". Or she would go nudge people in their leg to let them know she was there. She loved the shop and thought I opened it just for her.

The first time I took her to the dog costume contest at Celebration Cinema she dressed as a butterfly. I bought her a toddlers outfit and cut a hole out for her tail. She promptly pooped in the outfit when we got to the contest and the turds came out of the tail hole!

This was one of Sassie's favorite toys, her bear, she would grab it in the crotch, shake it and then flip it into the air. Her other favorite toy was her blue Molecuball, her ashes are now in it because it just seemed fitting. It sets next to the cash register every day.

Towards the end of her life, she really liked to snuggle with me. I'd carry her in a pouch on the front of me at the shop and each night I had to hold her in my lap in bed until she feel asleep. It was important for me to take care of her because she took care of me for so many years, it was the least I could do.

People can't remember me without Sassie, she was such a big part of my life. She was my peanut butter and I was her jelly. We were a team and we went everywhere together.

So snuggle your furry children every chance you get, bury your face in their fur and give them lots of kisses. They are in our lives for such a short time, enjoy every minute you have with them.
